There's scarce information on the ground concerning London grungegaze act Nevermind Me. However, there are a few things to be sure of: there are at least two members (one female and one male), they really bloody enjoy Nirvana, and they're impressive musicians. The noises they peddle are brash, elephantine rock cuts, laced with a neo-grunge stupor, shoegaze pedalboard FX and the ironclad emotion of Daughter.



Their eponymous EP is a glorious, heady concoction of brutal, serrated soundscapes and gorgeous vox. Axes canoodle with danger, giving way to all manner of wailing, grinding and agonised sounds; texturally, the guitars are vital, creating swampy layers that post-rock aficionados would swoon over. The rhythm section is dour and forceful like in prog. metal, which is a blatant contrast to the feminine (occasionally whirring with male harmonies) vocals, which softly doze above the visceral commotion.

Nevermind Me are riding the crest of a tsunami of shoegaze acts. Yuck, The History Of Apple Pie, Asobi Seksu and a plethora of others are hitting headlines with their chic style, and given My Bloody Valentine's return to music, it's a genre that's only going to get more popular. Fortunately, the group are incredible at what they do. It's dark and brooding where many of the aforementioned utilise dreampop to lighten moods, and instead of alleviating pain, they just frolic around in it like a pig in muck. It's a great new facet to an old genre we thought we knew so well.
