Despite her young years, Katherine Priddy has rapidly grown in reputation within Birmingham’s folk scene. She’s climbed up the billing at the Moseley Folk Festival since 2012 and, most recently, pulled in an impressive midday audience on the Sunday of the 2014 Festival: And there are many reasons for that.

Priddy has an endearing folk voice, an incredible quality to her guitar playing, alongside a solid core of careful covers and sweet original folk songs. Critics liken her to Alela Diane, First Aid Kit or Vashti Bunyan (an artist she’s recently supported at Birmingham’s MAC).

It’s quite likely that, before long, the current king of modern folk Devendra Banhart will hear of her talents along the hippie grapevine and gather her into his friendly bosom. After all, the lynchpin and spiritual leader of naturalismo has collaborated with and promoted a fair portion of today’s folk scene. And Banhart would not be the first to take a shine to Priddy.

She has already secured support slots for the likes of Vashti Bunyan and, notably, The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger whose frontman Sean Lennon personally asked Priddy to support them just hours before their Birmingham gig was due to start. Naturally, she delivered a stellar performance. Even BBC Radio 2’s veteran DJ Janice Long recently chose a Katharine Priddy cover version to play during her highly respected show.

Priddy has already released two short EPs and embarked upon a short, successful tour, both of which should be seen as an indication of the many great things to come: For lovers of Vashti Bunyan, Alela Diane and others associated with the naturalismo movement, an extended tour and accompanying album will definitely be worth the wait.
