Premiere: Black Doldrums Unveil Stunning New Single She Divine
London gothic shoegaze outfit release the title track of their forthcoming EP
London gothic psych outfit Black Doldrums make a magnificent return today with their strongest single to date, She Divine.
The outfit comprising singer-guitarist Kevin Gibbard and drummer / keys player Sophia Lacroix have a become a major source of UK psychedelia with a score of darkly compelling shoegaze gems.
Musically reminiscent of underrated 1990s outfit Curve, She Divine matches Black Doldrums' hallmark swirling guitar noise with an indelible vocal melody and is backed with a clip that evokes 1960s psych fest oilscreen visuals.
The track was partly inspired by Aldous Huxley's The Doors of Perception, a text that has influenced generations of musicians, and the tragic story of Betty May Golding (aka Tiger Woman), a 1920s singer, dancer and model and member of the London Bohemian set who became associated with occultist Aleister Crowley.
She Divine is the title track of the band's eagerly anticipated new EP of the same due for release through cult shoegaze label Club AC30 (Pinkshinyultrablast, Taffy, Fever Dream) on September 19th.
The disc was tracked alongside producer Pat Collier formerly of first wave UK punk The Vibrators at Perry Vale Studios (The Jesus and Mary Chain, Purple Heart Parade, Is Bliss).
She Divine is released by Club AC30 on September 19th
Black Doldrums play:
Sat 3rd August: Essex Psych Fest, The Bassment, Chelmsford, Essex
Thurs 5th September: The Victoria, London (Club AC30 EP launch show)
