  1. John Cooper Clarke

Live Reviews: John Cooper Clarke @ Brudenell Social Club, Leeds 03.06.11

Back in the Brudenell with a large group of old folks and a sprinkling of youth whose common problem is that they aren’t someone else, and a gangly figure shrink-wrapped in a suit falls onto the stage, ushering in a wholly reverent silence.

The beautiful sunshine rays itself down onto these 4 Shepherd's Bush venues - The Shepherd's Bar, Ginglik, St Stephen's Chuch, The Goldhawk - as they prepare for an energy packed, heart warming festival to begin the season.

  3. The Phoenix Foundation

Live Reviews: The Phoenix Foundation @ The Scala, London 02.06.11

It’s a beautiful summer’s evening and a packed Scala is buzzing with excited Kiwi expats (and a smattering of locals). They’re here to see six-piece guitar-pop veterans The Phoenix Foundation (named after a secret organisation in cult 80s US detective show MacGyver, fact fans!).

  4. Akron/Family

Live Reviews: Akron/Family @ Bush Hall, London 30.05.11

With its high ceiling, cherubs and chandeliers, Shepherd’s Bush’s Bush Hall is one of the loveliest venues in the capital. The San Francisco psychedelic bands that tonight’s headliners have a certain kinship with first blew people’s minds in similar Art Nouveau ballrooms, so it seems an appropriate setting for Akron/Family to weave their magic.

  6. Kitty, Daisy & Lewis - Smoking In Heaven (Sunday Best)

Albums: Kitty, Daisy & Lewis - Smoking In Heaven (Sunday Best)

Evolution and maturation are beautiful things in any band and on their latest album Smoking in Heaven, Kitty, Daisy & Lewis have grown considerably and found the tools needed to mine much deeper into their established sound.

  8. Braids

Live Reviews: Braids/Adult Jazz @ The Cockpit, Leeds 23.05.11

As much as we hate to do this, we have to start with a complaint. The Cockpit is a great venue if the band you’re going to see have the main room and not the tin can upstairs. Tonight the Hoosiers had the main room. No comment. And so we sloped up the stairs to the bunker above and experienced sound problems all night due to bad acoustics and a lazy soundman.
