Whitelands Rising London shoegazers Whitelands have unveiled visuals for their superlative new single Born In Understanding.

Initially the bedroom pop solo project of lead singer / guitarist Etienne, the group recently became a quartet with the arrival of Vanessa who plays guitar/synths with Big Joanie.

A beautifully melancholic track created from slow motion guitar textures and vocal harmonies, Born In Understanding is evocative of groundbreaking dream pop outfit AR Kane and cult shoegazers The Veldt, with a nod towards genre pioneers Slowdive, whose drummer Simon Scott mastered the track.

The group’s first release through leading shoegaze label Sonic Cathedral (Lorelle Meets the Obsolete, Mark Peters, bdrmm), Whitelands headlined the label’s 18th birthday celebration at The Social in London last month.

The first video issued by the group, Born In Understanding was filmed and directed by Manuel Suarez and features footage from the Sonic Cathedral birthday bash shot by visual artist Chris Tomsett of Innerstrings.
