Bloc 2012 Less Than 14 Days Away

With every man, his dog and Paris Hilton wanting to be a DJ or run their own hastily compiled festival this season it is always an especial pleasure to see a more established festival keep growing from strength to strength.

Bloc 2012 Less Than 14 Days Away Starting six years ago, in the mere 2000+ capacity venue of Pontins in rural Hemsby (just down the road from my beloved Great Yarmouth) Bloc has since blossomed to outgrow both that venue and the 6000+ venue of Butlins, Minehead which sold out in advance two years running and finds them now housed, on July 6th & 7th at the London Pleasure Gardens on the Royal Victoria Docks in grand old London town. I could go on about the venue at length, but Bloc has already covered that here. Bearded is just saying one thing: Floating stages.

Alas what is a stage without a star? Bloc has laid on a couple of them for the weekend too. Snoop Dogg, Richie Hawtin (and seeing as it is the peak of a long wet summer you might want to nip over to Boileroom and check out his mind bending Christmas Mix when you have a minute), Brainfeeder honcho Flying Lotus, a much rejuvenated Gary Numan, metal masked hip-hop madman DOOM, Hudson Mowhawke, Apparat, Scuba, Joker, James Blake, Hyperdub luminaries Kode9, Scratcha DVA & Terror Danjah, Loefah’s Swamp81 crew will be bringing a bag of dubs to take on Jackmaster and his Numbers label in a bit of a clash... Oh and that little cider soaked, rural scrub of East Anglia, where this whole thing began will be representing too, in the shape of Al Tourettes dropping one what will hopefully be another eccentric lightning paced set and Bearded dropping a few gin & tonics.

Tickets are predictably moving faster than a single mother in a Great Yarmouth Poundland sale on gyro day so hit up www.blocweekend.com asap to avoid missing out on what just might turn out to be the most unique festival of the summer.
