Civet @ Camden Underworld 09.08.10
Topping the bill in place of Orange County’s punk outfit Agent Orange, Civet waste no time in staking their claim to the stage. With names like Suzi Homewrecker, Liza Graves, Jacqui Valentine and Roxie Darling, they clearly adopt a no-holds-barred approach to their style, cultivating the audio to match the hardline image, complete with guttural snarls and roaring riffs.

2000 Trees Festival 16-17.07.10
The UK market is currently saturated with medium size festivals all booking similar artists teetering on the brink of stardom. What is so refreshing about Cheltenham’s 2000 Trees festival is not only its compactness, but the awesomely daring line up.

Dum Dum Girls @ Cargo, London 30.07.10
Girl band paint-by-numbers, the Dum Dums play an almost immaculate set for Upset The Rhythm on Friday night.

The Scoundrels @ Notting Hill Arts Club, London 28.07.10
In a sticky, sweaty, delightfully messy venue, the Scoundrels begin their set. Later than planned, but ready for anything and everything they plunge headfirst into their opening track ‘Just Cant See It Through’.

Quack Quack @ The Lexington, London 27.07.10
As far as band names go, Quack Quack has to be one of the strangest out there. Not least because it is so terribly fitting! The onomatopoeic sound that Mallards make out on the river breathes new life as the title of this northern trio, who deal in trip-some instrumental hedonism whilst being easy on the vocals.

Bear Driver @ The Queens Head, London 22.07.10
The cool and chintzy air of the Queens Head upstairs gig venue makes for a great setting for Bear Driver to front. Sandwiched between the synth-happy Dufflefolks, and the calm and quirky James Vincent McMorrow, their own brand of snappy, up-front indie pop spills from the PA.

Lounge on the Farm Festival 09-12.07.10
Lounge On the Farm festival takes place on a cow farm just outside the historic town of Canterbury. It has been going since 2006, and in the past has featured the likes of Fuck Buttons and The Coral. As one of the crop of new and lower key festivals which have tapped in the British public’s inexhaustible appetite for summer music, it satisfies a whole range of punters with its pleasant selection of niche bands, quirky setting and organic food counters. The atmosphere is like a bohemian village fete, and the relatively small scale (there were about 4000 people attending) make it a very relaxing place to be.

Part 1: Vieilles Charrues @ Carhaix, 15 - 18 July 2010
Despite copius amounts of cider, or 'cidre' if you want to fit in (i.e. be served) in Brittany, Bearded stays sober (almost) enough to remember the weekend.

Sissy and the Blisters @ the Boileroom, Guildford 12.07.10
A local band in a small, cliquey venue always has the potential to be a raucous event. Guildford-based band Sissy & The Blisters delivered just this in a powerful headlining set, pounding the ears of their home crowd.
