The Go! Team Unveil New Single Semicircle Song Plus New Album and Tour Details

Returning in formidable style, Brightonian eclectic-pop crew The Go! Team have announced their re-emergence with new single Semicircle Song ahead of a new album and UK tour in early 2018 (see dates below).

The first single from forthcoming LP SEMICIRCLE, due for release on 19th January 2018 through Memphis Industries, Semicircle Song is an uplifting brass-band stomper, created by Team leader Ian Parton as a vision of a marching band going rogue, throwing away their sheet music to blast out Northern Soul belters, vintage hip-hop cuts and Japanese indie pop gems.



Making a pilgrimage to Detroit, city of Motown, The Stooges, The White Stripes and Madonna, Parton worked with The Detroit Youth Choir. The Go! Team mainman says of the track, ‘With Semicircle Song I was trying to take the technicolour feel of a marching band into a more psychedelic place, reclaiming that sound from patriotic or sporty bullshit and harnessing its toughness and power. Brass which takes your head off, bouncy xylophones, offbeat handclaps and toms hopping in the gaps – I hoped it would be recognisably The Go! Team but unlike any song we’d done before’.

In contrast to 2015’s The Scene Between (review) which was essentially a Parton solo project, SEMICIRCLE was created with players from the ‘Team’s current live line-up, with original members guitarist Sam Dook and charismatic frontwoman Ninja returning to the fold alongside a guestlist of unexpected musicians.

Utilising sousaphones, glockenspiels and steel drums alongside the band’s inspired use of samples, the new track suggests a new avenue for the band’s kaleidoscopic sound.
