Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings - Soul Time! (Daptone)

Anyone who has seen the mighty Sharon Jones and her band live or followed the fortunes of the Daptone label over the last few years will already be drooling at the very prospect of another release by this group, who can rightfully claim to be the funkiest act on the planet.

But instead of a new album, we have a collection of rare tracks, which have either been released on soundtracks or extremely hard to find vinyl releases.
It’s definitely good news for funk junkies, who presumably are shelling out eye-watering amounts of cash for some of these tunes and it’s also very good news for the rest of us mere mortals, as this is (yet) another bomb-proof offering.

The grooves are as razor tight as always and Sharon Jones’ formidable soul voice shines on each and every recording. While some of their recent releases have been more soulful and polished, this is definitely the low down and dirty Dap Kings we all know and, frankly, adore.

The songs all belong on some sweaty dance floor and should be played as loud as humanly possible. They might have all been recorded at various times and for different projects, but they fit together like a glove. The Daptone quality control department have done it again!
