Tour Preview: Ulrich Schnauss (Brighton, St. Luke’s Church 25.03.22)
Ambient / electronica doyen kicks off six date UK tour this week
Posted on Feb 19th, 2022 in News, Ulrich Schnauss
Given current global stresses, the appearance of legendary German electronica maestro Ulrich Schnauss on these shores after an 18 month absence for a short UK tour offers a welcome chance to be absorbed into otherworldly soundscapes that encompass moods from the icy grandeur to more warmly melodic electronica – all in the atmospheric setting of Brighton's St Luke's Church (Tickets here).
As Schnauss says: "I’ve always used making and listening to music as a way to escape – putting on headphones is a great way to leave reality behind for a while, reminding yourself why it still makes sense to carry on".
Schnauss combines a solo career stretching back to 2001's debut Far Away Trains Passing By with membership of legendary electronic music pioneers Tangerine Dream since 2014 and cult ambient / shoegaze outfit Engineers. The upcoming tour will showcase expansive wonders from his epic remastered retrospective boxed set release Now Is A Timeless Present. Alongside extensive dipping into a diverse 20-year back catalogue, expect breathtaking improvisations – as captured on the boxed set with examples from gigs across Europe.
Fittingly for a Brighton gig, Schnauss will be accompanied by live visuals from eye-popping Sussex-based AV-creative Innerstrings. Veteran electronic dance composer Richard Norris – one half of The Grid – provides spritely support, along with coolly trippy Brighton-based BUNKR, who claim influences ranging from Cult of Luna and John Coltrane to Serge Gainsbourg.
Ulrich Schnauss Tour:
Mar 24, Bristol, Arnolfini
Mar 25, Brighton, St Luke's Church
Mar 26, Birmingham, Birmingham & Midland Institute
Mar 30, Manchester, The Stoller Hall
Mar 31, Leeds, Belgrave Music Hall & Canteen
Apr 2, Glasgow, Saint Luke's
