Hannah Peel - The Broken Wave (Static Caravan)
London folk songstress Hannah Peel dream-like harmonies get us lost in her debut record.

Parhelion - Midnight Sun (Cyclic Law)
A German website covering music at the darker end of the spectrum asked Parhelion - a.k.a. Ihor Dawidiuk - 'Wie kalt sind die Winter in Kanada?' It isn't uncommon for doom laden music journals, especially those on the continent, to ask such frivolities. However, in the case of Parhelion the question seems awfully pertinent.

Basil Kirchin - Primitive London (Trunk)
A re-discovered gem from a man, who the phrase 'unappreciated in his own time' is all too relevant.

Appliance - Re-Conditioned (RROOPP)
Featuring 44-tracks spread over three CDs this is a welcome summation of post-rock trio Appliance in the years before their last release, the 2003 album Are You Earthed.

Buzzard Lope - Daybreak (Lost Toys)
A buzzard lope is an ungainly comic dance, reminiscent of a turkey buzzard preparing to eat a dead mule – apparently it went down a storm in the minstrel shows of the 1890s. You’d imagine a band so named would be hard-drinkin’ pop-punk goofballs or larky cut’n’paste merchants a la DJ Yoda. You’d be very wrong indeed.
