Future of The Left – The Plot Against Common Sense (Xtra Mile)
With the release of their third studio album Welsh noise-bastards Future of the Left have taken more of a detour than might be obvious on first listening; clearly the Ghost of Albini Past looms large, whether it be the ‘Jesus-Christ-these-drums-are-in-my-bedroom’ production, or the sonic-filth legacy of Big Black; however, underneath this lies a wakening pop sensibility and dare-I-say a more playful humour.

Orbital - Wonky (ACP)
After an extended hiatus, brothers Paul and Phil Hartnoll are ready to return to the front lines of electronic music with long-awaited new album Wonky. According to the brothers, the birth of the album came after their heroic welcome at comeback dates around the world. This is their first album in eight years, and the techno legends have made this LP worth the wait. The newest effort sees them reclaim their crown as top dogs in the British electronic scene as the duo return to the iconic, genre-defining music of their early albums. Take notes dormant artists, this is how to do a comeback.

Sergeant Buzfuz - Go To The Devil And Shake Yourself (Blang)
When Sergeant Buzfuz released their single 'Here Come The Popes Part 3' in 2009, it felt like one of that year’s most startling and original singles. Musically sounding like a peculiar collision between Celtic Soul-era Dexy’s Midnight Runners, a musical excerpt from a Brechtian play and the kind of South American party band you’d only find on a taco-pack television advert, it was a fantastic piece of oddball folk-pop which lyrically focused on the misdemeanors and felonies of Popes throughout history. The kind of indie release that makes you punch your fist in the air with delight that such strangeness and brilliance is still able to exist, it perhaps unsurprisingly never rose much beyond cultish attention.
